* Cost Effective Recommendations
Visalia Fire Station No.2 was saved a significant amount of time and money by accurate evaluation of soil conditions and cost-effective recommendations. The proposed structure was a small wood- frame building. Another consultant recommended 4 foot overexcavation for the site, deep drilled piers for the building, and underpinning of the adjacent building. See's independent study found the building slab and pavement could be supported on native subgrade, and strip footings placed on 1 foot of engineered fill could be used for the foundation system, no underpinning required.

* Alternative Earthwork Procedures
Tomato Products Plant, Los Gatos saved time and money by See's suggestions for alternative earthwork procedures in consideration of the proposed grading. See provided geotechnical consultation during construction. Overexcavation and recompaction at the foundation locationswere required. See reviewed the grading plan and suggested the foundation overexcavation be integrated into the general site grading.

* Responsive Remedial Measures
The City of Mariposa maintained the opening of Old Highway, Mariposa to traffic because of accurate assessment and effective short-term remedial measures. See evaluated an active landslide. To stabilize the moving slope, recommendations of short-term remedial measures were provided in a responsive manner. Geotechnical investigation was then conducted to provide recommendations of long term corrective measures.

* Accurate Assessment of Site Conditions
Visalia Fire Station No.4 was saved from wasting money, and a potential change order during site work by accurate assessment of site conditions. Another consultant encountered soft soil in one of the four borings drilled at the site, and recommended 3 foot overexcavation for the entire site. See conducted a site reconnaissance and observed a moist area. After reviewing an early aerial photo which confirmed that a big oak tree had once been at the place where soft soil was encountered, See recommended the tree root hole be excavated, cleared of roots and debris, and backfilled with engineered fill, and the foundation and slab be supported on native subgrade without overexcavation.

* Cost Effective Recommendations
Imperial Bondware Warehouse was saved a significant amount of time and money by cost-effective recommendations. The proposed structure was a concrete wall panel warehouse structure. The building encompasses 150,000 square feet. Using innovative design approach and accurate engineering analysis, SEE'S recommendations included higher foundation bearing value with quality controlled earthwork. The owner saved a significant amount of concrete on foundations.

* Cost Effective Recommendations
Mission Oaks Plaza was saved from wasting money during site work by accurate assessment of the design factors together with the anticipated site preparation. Another consultant recommended 5 foot overexcavation and recompaction for the site due to presence of collapsible soil. SEE'S advanced analysis found the overexcavation can be reduced to 2 feet based on accurate evaluation of the foundation design and site grading factors.

* Cost Effective Recommendations
Millennium Manufacturing Plant was saved a significant amount of time and money by cost-effective recommendations. The proposed structure was a steel frame structure encompassing 61,000 square feet. The site has expansive soil condition with high swelling potential. Using innovative design approach and accurate engineering analysis, SEE'S recommended non-expansive soil strips under perimeter footings with an interior floating slab for the floor. The required earthwork was greatly reduced from the common whole site excavation and replacement method used by most other consultants.

* Alternative Earthwork Procedures
Bass Lake water storage tank was located on a steep slope at a remote hill. The tank was originally proposed to be supported on cut pad. Due to high cost of hauling excess dirt and expansive concrete retaining wall, alternative design was requested. With advanced technical knowledge and extensive experience, SEE'S recommended Geogrid reinforced embankment with balanced cut and fill. The alternative design eliminated the need of a huge retaining wall and expensive truck hauling of excess dirt.

* Accurate Assessment of Site Conditions
Penny Newman Mill Facility was saved a significant amount of time and money by accurate evaluation of soil conditions and cost-effective recommendations. The proposed construction included a large warehouse building, six large silos, a railroad spur, and other buildings. Another consultant evaluated the site subsurface soil conditions and concluded that due to the presence of high groundwater table and loose sand, there is a potential of liquefaction. The consultant recommended that the site be abandoned and another site be selected for the project. Otherwise, expensive site improvements or deep foundation may be used for the structures. SEE'S independent study found that the site subsurface soil conditions were not accurately evaluated by the other consultant. Due to improper field exploration method and inexperienced field personnel, the thickness and the density of the sand layers were estimated mistakenly. Based on accurate assessment, SEE's concluded that the sand layers at the site were dense with no liquefaction potential. The proposed construction can be built with limited site preparation required.

* Calculated Risk
The Valley Children's Hospital, Pediatric Care Center was saved a significant amount of time and money and potential safety hazards during site work by recommendations based on a calculated risk. The proposed structure is a single-story wood-frame building. Another consultant recommended 10 foot overexcavation for the building without conclusive data. See reviewed the field and laboratory data of the other consultant and previous soil reports in the vicinity of the site. Based on the site history and engineering analysis, See recommended that the foundation and slab be supported on 2 foot of engineered fill with engineer's review of site excavation
